Innovation & ingenuity

Often times, we find small and innovative solutions for big, serious problems. Beyond trivial technological developments like the Kindle 2.0 presented yesterday by Amazon, this great example from Africa deserves further analysis: Hero Rats.

The idea is simple & powerful: "to train and disseminate sniffer rats to save human lives- by detecting landmines and disease".

What a great example of 'destroying' the current worth of rats. Before, rats' worth consisted of vermin-related problems & annoyances. By training them and taking advantage of their properties, their worth is creatively destroyed and turned into a positive contribution.

This reminds me of the Guide Horses initiative, an equally ingenious way to take advantage of an animal's abilities for good causes.

¿Can you think of other scenarios where we can train & transform an animal to turn them into heroes?
